Ben Cruse, owner and Head Chef at Little Black Bird Café in Hastings loves simple dishes with pronounced flavors making use of everything Hawke's Bay has to offer. Ben started in the kitchen at 17 and his career has spanned from food trucks to Michelin Star restaurants working alongside some of the greats. Ben moved to Hawke's Bay in 2005 starting off at Brookfields Winery and was immediately inspired by the abundance of Produce available in Hawke's Bay. After an 18-month stint as a pastry chef for the Michin starred Yorke Arms in Yorkshire, UK, he returned to NZ and worked at Craggy Range before opening the award winning Little Black Bird.
